Portal Improvements
The Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) has announced the launch of its redesigned licensing portal, featuring a modernized interface and streamlined workflows. The updated portal includes a simplified renewal process, improved multi-state license management, and faster processing times for routine transactions. The changes are part of a multi-year technology modernization effort by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS).

Key Features for MLOs and Brokers
Mortgage loan originators will benefit from a unified dashboard showing all active licenses, pending renewals, and continuing education status across states. The new portal reduces the number of steps required for annual renewals and provides clearer guidance on state-specific requirements. Multi-state licensees can now manage all their licenses from a single view rather than navigating separate state pages. The system also includes improved notifications for upcoming deadlines and requirement changes.
Transition Timeline
NMLS plans to roll out the updated portal in phases, with full availability expected by mid-2026. During the transition, both the current and new interfaces will be accessible. NMLS recommends that users log in to the new portal and verify their information once it becomes available in their state. The update does not change any licensing requirements or fees — it only improves the technology platform used to manage them.
